(Columbus, OH – August 12, 2014) After seven years as a respected literary publicist, Kathy Carlton Willis of KCW Communications has returned to her writing roots and is now working as a consultant in the publishing industry. “I get jazzed coaching clients,” she said, “and prepping their book proposals and manuscripts.”
Kathy is also busy writing three manuscripts a year and preparing to promote these books. With this in mind, she started thinking about training someone to take over the publicity aspect of her business.
“Knowing I shouldn’t waste that insider information,” Kathy said, “I decided it was time to select someone to follow in my footsteps—and I wanted to pick someone who I’d be comfortable promoting my own books too.”
So, in April, Kathy chose Sharyn Kopf as her publicity apprentice. Besides providing Sharyn with one-on-one training, Kathy has passed on her extensive database of contacts.
Sharyn Kopf has over 20 years of experience as a writer and editor in a variety of media outlets. After starting her career as a newspaper reporter, she then served as an award-winning radio writer for Focus on the Family. She followed that with a job as a senior writer for public relations and marketing at Cedarville University in Ohio.
Now, Sharyn plans to incorporate publicity services into Route 1 Manuscripts, an editing and design business she developed with Susie Jarvis of Waterkopf Photography and Design. Susie brings her creative skill to promotional items like sell sheets, blog and cover design, business cards and head shots.
Together, Sharyn and Susie—who are also sisters—hope to come alongside writers as they prepare their manuscript for publication, and help them find their audience and get their book into the hands of readers. Interested parties can find out more by visiting their website.
“In many ways, I feel I’ve spent my life preparing for a career as a publicist,” Sharyn said. “I owe so much to Kathy for believing I can follow in her steps.”
