Learn how to start and finish a memoir in an engaging way. During the Memoir 101 workshop, you'll get a chance to explore different types of memoirs. You'll learn how to create the cast of characters and an outline to form your story. Then, you'll find pivotal moments to put on the page. And, you'll see how slowing down and reflecting on a dramatic moment provides meaning to the work.
In the Writing the Memoir 101 online class, you will be given the opportunity to write a summary of the memoir, a working outline, the opening pages, a dramatic scene, a reflective sequel, and additional scenes. You will also be able to review your overall intentions for the memoir. The goal of this course is to teach you how to structure your stories, develop your storytelling skills, and give you the tips, techniques, and knowledge to adapt your own life stories into a memoir. This workshop consists of six two-week sessions
"I think it's in my blood or something. It's what I love-writing stories, reading stories, helping new writers write their stories. I'll go out to a concert or movie or play with friends, but I can never wait to get back to my "work." For me, it's not work. I can't believe I get paid for doing what I love. Sometimes I feel guilty."
~ Gloria Kempton
A former student said, "Instructor Gloria Kempton proved she is knowledgeable and experienced in the topics presented, and she provided valuable suggestions on how to improve submitted writing assignments." Gloria's latest book, The Outlaw's Journey: A Mythological Approach to Storytelling for Writers Behind Bars, inspires writers to put their words on paper and tell their tale. Join Writing the Memoir 101! Class begins this Thursday, 8/14. You can log in anytime since there is not a scheduled time to meet. Assignments are due every other Wednesday. The registration fee is $349.99.

Writing the Memoir 101 with Gloria Kempton
|
Gloria Kempton has two passions: writing and working with writers. Gloria is currently working on several projects; a mainstream novel, a book of essays about her years as a prison volunteer, and a book for writers on unlocking the unconscious. She has published more than 600 stories and articles in more than sixty publications in the juvenile, young adult, family, and religious markets.
Many of her students have received contracts from publishers. As the former acquisitions editor at a publishing house and a freelance novel editor at major publishing houses, Gloria understands what happens on both sides of the desk. In her classes, you will find support and encouragement, as well as honest evaluation of your work. You can count on being asked a lot of questions that will help you get to the core of what it is that you want to communicate. Instruction is individualized because you are unique and your writing should reflect your unique voice.
