ARTICLE WRITING - PART 13

Opinion or Think Piece - A thoughtful, insightful article that expresses the writer’s opinion on any given topic. Since opinions are a dime dozen, yours must be well-written, entertaining, provocative, and interesting. Newspapers usually use opinion pieces, as do many magazines. Magazines will often carry them on the final page of the magazine as an “In My Opinion” column. Most are 1,000 words or less. Queries do not work well for this type of article, so send the complete manuscript. Example: Opinions on national topics such as abortion or doctor-assisted suicide, or on local topics, such as proposals for urban growth, new freeways, or the closing of a local health facility.
